If you are hosting a sit down dinner as your wedding reception, you may find yourself embroiled in more controversy among the family and friends you have called on to assist. Should you serve beef or chicken? Should you do a seafood choice or do you want to offer a vegetarian option?
The best people to ask about the selections you will be making are your wedding planner and your caterer, but trust your wedding planner first. Your wedding planner will know what will be popular and what people favor, as will your caterer. The difference is, your caterer may be financially motivated to recommend certain meals that are easier or less expensive to prepare.
Some caterers will only allow you to choose two entrees and their side dishes, which puts you in a bit of a bind. Seek out caterers that will allow you to add a vegetarian option – which could be a pasta dish, and may appeal to more people than just vegetarians.
When considering soup or salad, think of the season or climate. In summer or in tropical places, a salad will be much better received than a hot soup. You could opt for a chilled soup, but plan your meal for simpler palates and try to have food that will appeal to the masses. Likewise, in the winter, hot soup is a perfect welcome to your guests, but avoid soups that won’t appeal to the majority, like mushroom or French onion. If your budget and caterer allow, offer a selection of salad dressings. This will avoid salads going to waste because they are already dressed with a house dressing.
When selecting your menu, keep in mind that it is a balancing act. Keep your guests happy, honor your theme, and stick to a budget, and it will all turn out just fine. |
